An Intimate Delray Beach Courthouse Wedding
There’s something I love about courthouse weddings: there isn’t much room for the day to become about anything other than getting married.
For Emilio and Landleigh, their wedding day started outside the Delray Beach courthouse with a first look.
Emilio was nervous before seeing her. But the second he turned around, all of that emotion came to the surface. There were a few tears, followed pretty quickly by laughter, before we headed inside to make things official.
A Courthouse Ceremony in Delray Beach
With a small group of family and friends there to celebrate with them, Emilio and Landleigh exchanged rings and were married inside the courthouse.
The ceremony itself was simple, but that didn't make the moment feel any less important.
Afterward, we took advantage of the courthouse architecture for a few portraits before heading farther down Atlantic Avenue.
Wedding Portraits at Veterans Park
For couples getting married at the Delray Beach courthouse, one of the things I love about the location is that the courthouse doesn't have to be the only backdrop for your wedding photos.
Downtown Delray Beach gives us plenty of options nearby, so your portraits can feel more like a wedding day and less like a trip to a government building.
For Emilio and Landleigh, we headed to Veterans Park on Atlantic Avenue.
And then it started raining.
Landleigh was in heels, the grass was wet, and getting across it wasn't exactly going to be easy. Before we could make much of a plan, Emilio picked her up and carried her.
Of course, I kept photographing.
It wasn't something we planned or a photograph I could have created for them. It was simply something that happened—and exactly the kind of moment I want couples to have space for on their wedding day.
Your Courthouse Wedding Can Still Feel Like a Wedding Day
A courthouse ceremony can be short. Your guest list can be small. You can skip many of the traditions that come with a larger wedding.
But you don't have to treat the entire day like an appointment.
Build in time for a first look. Bring the people you want standing beside you. Walk around downtown afterward. Stop somewhere you love. Make portraits. And leave enough room in the plan for something unexpected to happen.
Sometimes that's where the best part of the story is.
