From Atlantic Avenue to Atlantic High: A Delray Beach Engagement Session
Some engagement sessions start with a list of pretty locations. Brendon and Yvette's started with places that actually meant something to them.
They met as teenagers at Atlantic High School and reconnected years later. So when it came time to plan their Delray Beach engagement session, going back to some of the places that were part of their story just made sense.
An Engagement Session That Felt Like Them
During the planning process, Yvette asked me what they should wear and if they needed to bring any props.
I usually recommend two looks for engagement sessions: one that's a little more dressed up and another that reflects their personality more.
As for props, I told her she could absolutely bring them if she wanted, but they weren't necessary.
"My portfolio is all about couples enjoying each other. Bring all the goofiness, cuddles, love and fun and it'll be awesome."
She loved that idea.
And that's exactly what they did.
A Morning Around Delray Beach
We started the morning on Atlantic Avenue, where they spent plenty of time as teenagers. As we walked around, stories started coming back about what it was like hanging out there when they were younger.
From there, we headed to the beach. There wasn't an elaborate story behind choosing it. They're water people. That's it.
And I actually love that.
Not every part of an engagement session needs some deep meaning. Sometimes a place holds years of memories, and sometimes you choose it simply because you love being there.
Then it was time to head back to where their story started.
Engagement Photos at Atlantic High School
Our original plan was to take a few photos near the Atlantic High School sign.
Then we got there and saw the gate was open.
I was overly excited.
Instead of staying outside, we were able to go onto campus and make our way to the football stands.
For this part of the session, they leaned into the nostalgia. Yvette wore a Lil Wayne shirt—an artist she loved in high school—and added her veil.
Those photographs ended up being some of my favorites from the entire session.
It wasn't something we could have completely planned. We saw an opportunity, went with it, and ended up creating something that meant even more.
What I'll Remember Most
As excited as I was about getting onto the high school campus, what I enjoyed most was watching Brendon and Yvette together.
It was nice seeing the way Brendon cares for Yvette and the way she cares for him. They seemed completely comfortable with each other, and it showed.
The laughing. The cuddling. The little looks. The goofiness.
Exactly what I'd told them to bring.
That's really all I need.
